[…] Amidst the battleground, fire and air swayed back and forth without ever clashing.

A mesmerising show of darting swords, dance performances and dazzling visuals took centre stage at Taormina’s Greek Theatre for “Italia-Resto del mondo,” an international fencing event set against the enchanting backdrop of the ancient ruins.

In this final stage of Sport@Expo, under the direction of Guglielmo Ferro, the sporting event was enriched by the integration of performing arts and light design, infusing the setting with a vibrant luminosity. The interplay of light particles and blazing walls, dynamism and wonder, perfectly complemented the stunning and evocative space.

Performed by world-renowned artists, the interludes between fencing matches showcased the elemental forces of fire and air, both deeply symbolic in this noble discipline. Inspired by air’s vital energy, a light and weightless virtual environment enveloped the surroundings with its delicate breeze. Meanwhile, a fiery display ignited the walls to celebrate the performances’ vigorous motion. Mount Etna’s mighty presence in the background added a natural epic touch to a show guarded by the vigilant eye of Hephaestus, the very first swordsmith.
