— 1 pixel for a cup

An innovative solution for an unconventionally unique retail design.

Four distinct but interwoven sequences recount Don Nino Pastry Shop’s daily routine. In employing animated text, amusing characters, and colourful transitions, this piece artfully portrays the company’s core values, blending its rich tradition with a forward-looking spirit. The realisation of an “8-Bit Signage” graphic narration was designed to revitalise the commercial space with engaging visuals, primarily focusing on customer interactions.

Innovative solutions such as experiential signage promote an empathetic dialogue between the sign and the user, transforming bare information into a lively touchpoint. By cultivating an enjoyable environment for the public, we establish a warm, friendly atmosphere that communicates the brand identity through technology, visuals, animations, and customised content.

Transitioning from pixels to voxels, a frame-by-frame animation was the perfect medium to portray a volumetric environment constituted by cups, uniquely captured in a vibrant chromatic palette. Each animation drew inspiration from the retro-style aesthetic and followed the pattern of 8-bit animations. These whimsically nostalgic visuals pay homage to the past while infusing a contemporary digital twist characterised by vivid colours, playful scenes, and an enduring, iconic charm.

The editing of the four sequences corresponds to different times of the day, each 8-bit micro loop accompanying the customer’s breakfast, lunch, appetiser, and Sunday cake rituals. The concept of the coffee cup embodying a pixel highlights the most emblematic everyday object of Don Nino’s activity. With pixel mapping, the moving picture is deconstructed, and the essential component of every digital image transforms a series of static objects, shaping an exceptionally unique brand design.
