SENSITIVE ENVIRONMENT

[…] A hybrid show where live drum performance and real-time visuals convey to a unique cinematic experience.

“Maia” is a live cinematic and music performance held at  Zō Centro Culture Contemporanee, presented within the musical review “Partiture.” Developed from Davide Oliveri’s vision, this hybrid production embodies the illusion of existence in an epic synthesis of our time. In “Maia,” audiences explore the archetypal influence of immersive sound technologies and imagery.

Electronic sounds merge with acoustic drums, weaving into a collective dramaturgy. Music, light design, and video incursions produce a synaesthetic experience, delving into the instability inherent to reality and the oniric realm. In an attempt to metaphorically rend the “Veil of Maia,” our perception prepares for new sensory landscapes.

Digitally generated images manifest in real-time, infusing life into moving pictures. These unfold and interact with computerised paintings, echoing the abstract cinematic language of f “Absolute Film”. The performance expands the spatial image of acousmatic music into a liminal place hosting the “projection of the sound.”  Within the immersive stage, the timeline delineates the path toward emotional intelligence and the immense potential of human-machine partnerships.

A STORY WITHIN THE STORIES

Memory acts as the cohesive force that binds everything together. The interplay of various acoustic stimuli within the musical performance aims to evoke a nostalgic human sentiment. Electroacoustic compositions emanate from concealed speakers positioned behind a semi-transparent projection surface, an intriguing dark “veil” partially obstructing the sight.

These remote sounds, a blend of natural percussions and distinct tones, are filtered and amplified by specular film scenes, ultimately guiding the audience toward uncharted inner territories to discover, or rather, to “recall.”
