“Planar.s” is a project commissioned by Le Vie Dei Tesori, an Italian festival celebrating material and immaterial national heritage. Positioned at the entrances of Palermo’s prominent sites, these luminous media anticipate the allure of the city’s treasures with a vibrant gleam of light.
The ensemble of light sculptures scattered throughout the city center dismantles the urbanscape and redesigns the flow of movement. “Planar.s” was conceived to initiate a conversation with public spaces and reintroduce the phenomenologies linked to the environment, seen as a junction for interactions among individuals.
As an alternative to traditional urban illumination, the structures develop their social aggregation strategy, unbound by conventional routes and dedicated to sustainable lighting. New relational trajectories and radiant ley lines emerge in the metropolitan area, preserving its functional equilibrium. Territorial renewal converges with visionary poetry, foreseeing a shared perspective on future coexistence.

The essence of a place, its historical heritage, architectural language, social and cultural expressions, and inherent habits all shape the definition of public space. In highlighting relationships between humans and the environment, the artwork aims to reveal hidden facets within physical spaces. The public, the abstract dimension, the virtual space, and the perceivable environment intersect to enrich this evocative night walk, imbued with narrative tension.
Through a new set of spatial considerations, the use of mapping and kinetics shifts the attention from surface to volume and from matter to light. The peculiarity of these installations lies in their size and shape variation, adaptable to fit any locale. Complemented by minimalistic aesthetics and sound physical stability, their impressive visual impact appoints them as glowing landmarks along the treasures itinerary.
