SENSITIVE ENVIRONMENT

[…] “My city is a virtual backdrop that frames the absurd ballet of my country.”

“Shock in My Town” is a live performance conceived and produced by Turi Zinna. The play introduces the concept of false social consciousness and artfully explores it through a dramaturgical and scenic device. Sixteen suspended screens stand out and take up the stage.  Arranged in 4 columns, they envelop the protagonist, a true embodiment of the “deus ex machina.”

A multisensory language

Electronic music, distorted live recordings, and generative images interfere with the protagonist’s voice, occasionally disturbing or overlaying his words. These elaborate sounds and visual inputs alternate, crafting an unknown multisensory language that adds uniqueness to the performance.

“Shock in My Town” is an experimental dialogue merging performance, sound, dramaturgy, and new technologies. In an unconventional style, the stage challenges the distance that separates the viewer from the social, economic, and civil realities surrounding him.

Visuals are generated in real-time, manifesting as computed shaders interacting with film resources from the archive. The moving images transform into computed paintings, quoting the cinematic abstractions of “Absolute Film.” Accompanied by acousmatic music, the performance extends the space into a liminal setting where the “projection of the sound” unfolds. The timeline maps the path for emotional intelligence, showcasing the vast potential of human-machine collaborations within the immersive stage.
